Holiday Rush and Safety

Today we move away from the purest of Holidays – Thanksgiving – and into the most commercialized – Christmas. Leading up to Thanksgiving we could not open the paper, or listen to the radio or watch tv without getting hit with "Black Friday" advertisements.  Get out and shop early is the message. Buy stuff and be happy or make others happy with the the deals you get. A foreigner to our country would think the holiday is about

buying things. It’s not purchasing things. It’s about pausing to be grateful.

Hopefully we can all keep that piece of the Thanksgiving theme in our heads and our hearts and simply give thanks on a regular basis. I know that the more I can focus on

and acknowledge the simple blessings in my life, the more content I am. The more I can shut out, ignore and let go of the commercial barrage, the more peaceful I can be.

Here’s to the hope that we can be thankful for the simple blessings of family, friends, health and safety.
