I would be pulling my money out of a bank that charged me a $5 transaction fee too. No it isn’t illegal, so long as you have not signed any documentation agreeing to leave your money in there.
I don’t really trust banks, but there’s no way to cut them out. Your employer won’t pay you in cash, and nearly every job these days forces you to use direct deposit as not to screw up their book keeping.
