The real reason of this whole fiasco is the expansion fee.
The NHL is aware of the situation in Glendale…and that’s why they would rather see relocation to Winnipeg than Southern Ontario where they have the potential to get a BIG expansion fee.
It’s apparent that Jerry Reinsdorf was never serious about keeping the Yotes in Phoenix from day one.
I hate that he keeps sayin I don’t hate Canada – look remeber when we bailed out the Oilers, Flames, and Canucks?!? He’s so annoying; he outright denies the losses by the coyotes since inception…i love how Ron looks like he just wants to give bettman a good punch in the face when he scrambles for answers to the tough questions
Bettman’s legacy…. the loss of teams in Canada, the drop in TV viewers, a strike, a boring decade of hockey through the 90′s, more career ending concussions than ever…. shall I go on or should he leave now before he damages the game anymore? Thank God it is such a great sport that it can weather his tenure.
Dodged some great questions there Gary! How can a team that has no financial problems have to ask for an advanced pay cheque to keep the team a float?
I’m not saying he doesn’t have a point in saying that bankruptcy is a cop out for franchises, I just think it’s a joke that he thinks there are buyers for the team to stay in Phoenix….
Ron MacLean has “balls” to ask these questions at this “tool” of a commisioner. I doubt that anyone from Versus or NBC would have the spine or guts to ask the same questions. I am a American, and this Canadian (MacLean) has my respect for asking the tough questions. Thanks Ron.
I can’t believe he says Phoenix was never in trouble hahaha I’m all for trying to support teams that are in trouble and try to remedy the problem, but they’ve had over 10 years of trouble and haven’t been able to get themselves to be a profitable club. I think they’ve reached that point (similar to the point he refers to when talking about Winnipeg and Quebec) that he needs to admit defeat, and move the team back to Canada!
they moved quebec and winnipeg in a summer with no offers to help the teams with millions!
