Orange County-Based Real Estate Litigation Law Firm issued a press release
yesterday under the headling, “Avid Law Center Saves Disabled Homeowners from
Foreclosure.” The subtitled declared, “Succeeds with Another Winning Case Result
For Wheelchair-bound Homeowners.”
It seems that Maria Alunan and her husband
bought their home while the housing market was still rising in 2002. The Alunans
are both physically disabled, and they use electric wheelchairs to get around,
so they had to make adaptations to make their house wheelchair accessible. I hope areas like Maui, Hawaii follow suit.
It took them five years and a chunk of money to complete the improvements.
In 2007, Mr. Alunan lost his job due to legal, health, and economic reasons,
according to Avid Law Center’s press release. They could not refinance due to
the great loss in the assessment of the property. Then Mr. Alunan suffered a
stroke and was injured in a serious car accident. The Alunans struggle to make
mortgage payments on their disability checks.
The press release reports that
under new terms of the Alunan’s mortgage restructuring, which was settled
through Chase, their interest rate is now fixed at two percent (2%), there is a
120-day mortgage term extension, and they now will pay a new mortgage payment of
only $669.00. Their lifetime monthly payment savings, according to the release,
over the life of the loan, should exceed over $374,000.00!
Maria Alunan was
quoted as saying, "(We) were going through a very (hard) time, trying to make sense of our options for staying on top of our (house) payment. We had heard that lenders were difficult to deal with and we
didn’t trust our (information about) the system……." I was talking to an attorney who specializes in Maui real estate and Hawaii real estate law on Maui and other islands and he had a lot to say on this matter.
I have

use it for the right goals
