If you are in college getting your bachelor’s degree, it really doesn’t matter what you select as a major. If you want to, you can major in art history, French, accounting, or engineering. The essential point of a pre-law education is to teach you critical thinking. If you are interested in something dealing with the family, consider sociology or developmental psychology.
Please note that it always helps to have an understanding of accounting, especially as it will help you understand financial statements and the efforts that some people go to to hide assets from their spouses in the period leading up to the divorce.
Once you are in law school, of course, you will take at least one course in family law.
